A Chocolate Santa and a Woman

On Sunday, I stopped by my favorite smoke shop, Smoky's of Bloomfield Hills, to pick up some cherry pipe tobacco. This establishment is the Nordstroms of cigar and pipe shops. I like the smoking lounge where you can mingle with captains of industry and dpw workers at the same time.

The young lady who runs this store was looking a bit glum as she weighed my 4 ounces of tobacco. I casually mentioned that Christmas was less than 2 weeks away to make conversation. She looked at me with big, sad, brown eyes and lamented that she was just not into Christmas this year. "I have not even finished decorating the store yet."

I emphathized with her, paid for my purchase and left for Rite-Aid down the block to satisy my craving for chocolate. The buy-one-get-one-free sign for Russell Stover's chocolate santas made me a buyer and believer.

After leaving Rite-Aid, I backtracked to go to use the restroom at Starbuck's which is a few spaces from Smoky's. As I started to pass Smoky's, a thought came to me. What woman does not like chocalate?

I walked in and the young lady, who was not looking forward to Christmas, was waiting on a customer. I took one of the chocolate santas, the free one I hope, and slid it on the counter so that it would stop in front of her. My reward was this big smile and a pair of happy brown eyes. This 44 cent santa made 2 people feel good on this December day.
